Bulgaria Geography

Located in the Balkan Peninsula , in the South East part of Europe, Bulgaria comprises four different natural regions, and borders five other countries, Romania to the north(mostly along the Danube), Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia to the West, Greece and Turkey to the South.

The mountainous South West of the country has two alpine ranges, Rila and Pirin, including the highest peak Musala at 2,925 metres and 260 glacial lakes.
Further East are the lower but more extensive Rhodope mountains.
In the Balkan mountains, the countrys' major mineral resources are found, cereals and potatoes are grown with cattle and sheep being raised.

South of the mountains there is an area of grassland, where tobacco, cotton, rice, flowers and grapes are cultivated.

The fertile Danubian plains in the north are wheat and corn producing areas

In the East can be found the long sandy beaches of the Black Sea coast.

The total length of the borders is 2,245 kilometres.
